Savannah carpenters are proud to have played a role in getting the Empowerment Center ready for business in Garden City, Georgia. At the Empowerment Center, those who benefit from a hot meal will now be able to receive more assistance. The Center will also connect people to groups and programs to help get them back on their feet.
The project is being led by State Representative (District 162) Carl Gilliard. The Center is a partnership between Rep. Gilliardís Feed the Hungry Program and St. Josephís/Candler. These two organizations will bring in local and state organizations to provide resources to those living in poverty.
State Rep. Gilliard approached the Savannah carpenters to get the Centerís layout altered to allow for maximum use and assistance to its visitors. So, in one day, a group of apprentices from Local 256 got to work and, most noticeably, changed the location of three interior walls to get the Center in tip-top shape for not just the grand opening, but for many years to come!
