Working on the biggest project in Savannah is an honor. When the mayor comes and autographs your work, thatís a whole different kind of thrill. Thatís what happened to apprentice Curtis Watson of Southeastern Carpentersí Local 256, who is working with CA Murren & Sons on the side utility work for the $165 million arena.
Savannah Mayor Van Johnson stopped by to check on the projectís progress. He also signed the utility pipe that Curtis was working on. Curtis also signed the pipe and added his daughter's name, Aaliyah.
Mayor Johnson is an active supporter of the project. The arena is being built on the cityís westside in the Canal District. It is expected to attract entertainment and sporting events and is set to open in February 2022.
