The United Way of Southwest Alabama has recognized Jay Schuelly, Business Manager of Local 318, with the 2025 W.O. Mozingo Community Service Award! This award honors a labor leader who exemplifies service, solidarity, and a strong commitment to community. Jay Schuelly has been a driving force in the labor community. He stepped into a leadership role within the AFL-CIO Southwest Alabama Labor Council this year, and his involvement has made a huge difference in planning and executing community-focused events that connect union members with the people and causes that need them most. We are proud to recognize his leadership, dedication, and the spirit of service he brings to everything he does.
Within the Southeastern Carpenters Regional Council, Jay not only oversees the daily operations of Pelham Local 318, but he also serves on the Executive Committee of the Council’s E-Board. A 15-year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, Jay handled scaffolding, concrete formwork, framing, and finishing work on job sites until 2015, when he turned to teaching the craft full-time. With Local 318, Jay has been Recording Secretary, Vice President, Delegate, and now Business Manager. He is a fourth-generation union carpenter and second-generation carpenter instructor.
Congratulations, Brother!
